Tree Sculpture Tour
It was a sad day on September 13, 2008, when Hurricane Ike covered most of the island in a tidal surge. The salty storm waters killed off many of the gorgeous oak trees found throughout the island. However, sculpture artists brought a second life to these deceased trees with whimsical sculptures that now line many neighborhood streets that once housed beautiful canopied trees.

Historic Buildings and Homes
Galveston has a rich history that stems back over 200 years. It was a port that welcomed immigrants from Germany, Italy and Greece and became a leading port for cotton exports. At one time Galveston became Texas’ largest city with a bolstering commercial center.

In 1900 a great storm changed all that leaving the island picking up her pieces. During the 1920s and 1930s the city again began to reemerge as a tourist destination with casinos and other vice businesses. Eventually in the 1950s the illegal businesses finally closed leading the city to a long sluggish economy.
The City has once again remerged as a popular tourist and wedding destination leaning on its storied past and architectural beauty. A must for those who appreciate the intricacies of old-world craftsmanship.
Turtles About Town
Turtles About Town is a community art project created by Turtle Island Restoration Network and Clay Cup Studios showcasing the City of Galveston and the conservation efforts of Turtle Island Restoration Network to protect endangered sea turtles on the upper Texas coast.
​
There are 50 colorful Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle statues that have been installed around Galveston Island, Texas since 2018.
​
Businesses and organizations graciously sponsored the turtles while local artists were commissioned to give each one its own personality and meaning.
